Discount Cat Condo

My cats love, love, love this tower. The cubes stack on top of one another, creating a mini set of steps that the cats can climb. Or they can wrap their paws around the outside and pull themselves up it, like King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. Or they can climb up and down inside the cubes. Or they can leap into one of the large circular windows/doors from a nearby piece of furniture. Add a few mice and ostrich feathers inside the cubes and you have the world's best cat toy.

I love how it looks - it is like a piece of sculpture in our home. Very cool and infinitely better than the carpeted cat tower we used to have.

But, the quality of this cat tower leaves a lot to be desired. It is covered with a medium weight linen-like fabric that is beautiful, but oh so vulnerable to cat claws. We knew we needed a cat tower but I couldn't bear to get one of those cut-pile carpet monstrosities. This is super cool looking, collapses to store away, and loved by our cat. However, the fabric pulls and tears with the merest touch of a claw and almost disintigrates with active clawing. I still like it, just seems like sort of a big shortcoming for a cat tower (though I guess it explains why those other ones are still so popular).

Mr Tux thinks this is the best thing since canned cat food. He loves to fly up the side and wait up top for me to toss a toy to him. It's a great perch for birdie watching (bird feeder on the balcony) and he can stretch and scratch on the sides. He will dive down through the layers chasing a toy that dropped. It is very sturdy so it doesn't wobble and scare him even when he launches himself at the middle of tower.

I like it because it has a refined look to it. Most cat towers are ugly beyond words, but Mr Tux was going to be climbing the drapes if he didn't have something else he could climb on. Clearly someone with a design background had a hand in making this. The colors are stylish and it has a relatively small foot print. Since it has to sit in the living room of my tiny condo, I wanted something that wouldnt feel terribly out of place.
